I knew after I spoke with Dr. Steve that he was going to be MY GAME CHANGER! I had tried everything, Psych Prep, ATTBS, Prep Jet, different apps and online tutors, study groups, etc. I had been struggling with this exam for so long that after 5 failed attempts, I was desperate to find whatever I needed to help me pass. Dr. Steve’s study groups provided me a solid guideline on how to study and gave me a structure for me to tailor what worked for me. I was very overwhelmed with all the material that was out there from prep companies. I eventually picked Prepjet but even so it was still overwhelming and I didn’t know HOW to study. I initially started out with Dr. Steve’s study groups as a way to motivate me to keep me going down the path of passing the EPPP. From late April of 2023 through October of 2023 I was passively studying and just attending the study groups to get my brain going and churning. By the time I hunkered down to start actively studying from October 2023 to January 2024, I was already familiar with the material and just needed to master them. The handouts were very helpful in supporting me to remember topics I struggled with along with them being a starting point of how I made my own study guides and flashcards. I ended up making a bunch of my own study guides based off of Dr. Steve’s handouts in combination with Prepjet’s summaries. I only did flashcards for things I just really could not retain and needed to just go ahead and memorize (like the drugs and mechanism of action, etc). In addition, I would heed Dr. Steve’s advice on not just focusing on the “Big 6” as Prepjet advises. Although I heavily focused on the big 6, I did study 2 other areas of topics (Learning & Memory and Social Psychology). I didn’t review the other as I had no time left to go through them. There were some life circumstances that made things limiting for me in terms of dedicating a ton of time to focus and so there was no way for me to review every topic in Prepjet. I truly believe mastering the Big 6 and the extra 2 topics was what got me the points I needed to pass. Knowing myself and how I learn I didn’t think I could really master the Big 6 in a way that would get me that 500+. I’m glad I listened to Dr. Steve. For the other areas of topics (Research and Stats, Psych Assessment, and Test Construction), I only reviewed Dr. Steve’s handouts briefly a few times and to my surprise, I easily learned and remembered how to calculate a confidence interval amongst a few other things! I never needed to utilize individual tutoring sessions so study groups alone was sufficient if it fits into what works for you! I also had to shift my mindset and told myself “when I pass” and “I already passed” instead of “if I pass” or “what if I fail.” I’m so happy this part is over! Thank you Dr. Steve! - Amy Linsao

I met Dr. Steve after failing the EPPP two times. I was at a low point in my life, feeling hopeless,
exhausted, and embarrassed. I was 2.5 years into my post-doctoral fellowship and was feeling
pressure to become licensed. After my second fail, I made the tough decision to stop working and
go on medical leave to focus on my mental health. At the onset of my leave a friend introduced

My experience with EPPP was unique. I learned through the wisdom of Dr. Haran, this exam is more than memorizing. It's about, do you know what each domain is specifying what you should know, and can you apply it. Application for me turned into the key. I could remember probably more than 68% of material, but I could not apply what I recalled when it is given in question form. I learned to, and I quote, “ explain it to me like I was a five year old”. (Denzel Washington: Philadelphia). Conceptualizing became the key for me. Once I understood where I could explain it to a five year old, no matter how they presented the question, it helped me key in on the answer. So when Doc says this is a blended exam, that’s the key to really understanding and being able to blend it in your own words is the way you will pass! - Ken Gardner

I started this process in 2021 having no idea what I was doing and I failed. Tried it a second time in 2022 with some study materials but was not structured and honestly had no idea of what I was doing or how to study the material, and failed. Dr. Steve was immense help! My individual and group time with him really made the material come to life and make sense. I failed the EPPP after doing what I believed to be A LOT of studying. I studied using psychprep and felt lost after because I felt like I reviewed/memorized everything. A friend connected me with Dr. Steve and he almost immediately let me know that I didn't know the material as well as I thought I did. It turns out I did a heck of a good job memorizing all the basic information in psychprep but didn't have a deep understanding of some of the more complex subjects. Dr. Steve pushed me to sign up with prepjet and provided me with his study method. After mastering his method, and attending group sessions on the topics I found more challenging, I started to feel like I was in a place to take the exam over again. But instead of jumping right in I decided to do some individual sessions with Dr. Steve to make sure I had a deep understanding of the material, and it was worth it. After 5 individual sessions, Dr. Steve told me I was teeming with so much EPPP knowledge that there was nothing else left to do. He was right, I passed with a 555, 6 months after failing with a 487. My major takeaway from working with him is that you cannot base your study habits on the habits/recommendations of your colleagues. Usually, you'll hear that people study for 2 hours a day for 6 months. The reality is that this will not lead to a passing score for everyone because some people, like myself, need more time. It's important to figure out what you need to do to ensure your success. I would recommend Dr. Steve to anyone who is struggling to pass or is under a lot of pressure to pass on the first go. When I think about this licensing process and passing the EPPP exam, the thought that comes to mind is that I never really knew I needed something until I had it. I began my EPPP journey in 2020. After plenty of failed attempts with scores in the high 400s, I felt discouraged, unmotivated and hopeless. It wasn’t until the beginning of 2022 that my friend informed me of Dr. Steve’s group and individual services. "I had attempted and failed the EPPP 3 times before I met Dr. Steve. At the time, I had every requirement met to get licensed, except for passing this test. In the midst of these 3 tries I had finished postdoc and was moving states, as well as starting a new job, while studying. My journey to passing the EPPP was one I never would have imagined. Looking at my academic background, I can truthfully say I have never struggled passing a test or achieving grades that I was proud of. My outlook towards this exam was "I'll buy a study package, buckle down and learn it, and pass". I studied extensively with AATBS and PrepJet materials for 4-5 months before my first attempt at the EPPP in July 2021. I missed it by 20 points and was devastated. I assumed that I only needed a few more points, so I signed up again and in August 2021, I failed the exam for a second time. I didn't understand how I could study for so long, feel I understood the material, and still fail!

My name is Mariángela Nava Urdaneta, Psy.D. I am a native Spanish-speaker, bilingual and former International Student from Maracaibo, Venezuela. After meeting all the requirements for licensure as a psychologist in Florida, I started preparing for the Examination for Professional Practice in Psychology (EPPP) in January 2020 while working full-time at a community mental health center. I felt overwhelmed, tired and completely lost in the amount of information I needed to memorize. At first, my studying methods were similar to how I have studied since undergrad: by reading the information, writing and re-writing notes multiple times. This method became old and boring quickly as I was not advancing through the test domains at the pace I desired, and my practice tests scores indicated that I had a long way to go. In March 2020, the outbreak of COVID-19 caused my agency to fully transition to Telehealth services. The lines between work and home were blurred, and my motivation to study was gone.

I found out about Dr. Stephen Haran through an EPPP Facebook Group. A member posted a comment briefly describing their experience with Dr. Haran, as well as the tutoring services he offered. As I saw myself 4 attempts completely and not having accomplished a passing score, I felt disappointed in myself, like a failure, even having imposture syndrome. I had heard about Dr. Steve and his high rate of success when tutoring students for the EPPP. I automatically thought "how much money will I have to spend!" Throughout my time studying for the last 4 attempts I used the recommendations of other tutors and saw myself still spending a lot of money without reaching my goal, "pointless!" He not only helped me with the material but I was able to be properly guided to get my accommodations for the exam. I finally passed my exam and I could honestly say I couldn't have done it without Dr. Steve's study strategies, organization and guidance. I now know more information than ever and I feel accomplished after passing the EPPP and ready to face the world as a licensed psychologist.

WOW WHAT AN EXAM!! I sincerely mean it when I say, I couldn’t have passed this exam without Dr. Steve. I can finally now say that, this exam is behind me and am able to move forward. I began studying early 2020 and spent hours, days, and SO MANY sleepless nights as I devoted every ounce of my energy toward this exam. On my first attempt I was in such disbelief as to how could I have failed, and it took a big hit on my self-esteem and confidence. But at the same time I was more determined then ever that I can’t let this ONE exam hold me back. So, in I go for my second attempt, thinking this would be it. To my disappointment it was not and I knew I had to change something and figure out a new game plan. I eventually came across Dr. Steve and his tutoring services, needless to say it was the BEST DECISION I made. Before I began individual sessions with Dr. Steve, one of the first things he told me that he isn’t a magic pill in passing the exam. There is no shortcut! There is no magic! But what there is, is his approach in helping you LEARN the content in a meaningful way that regardless of how the question may be asked, you would be able to dissect it and connect the dots between different concepts and domains. After our initial assessment, Dr. Steve had noticed that my anxiety is becoming a hinderance towards my success on the EPPP. After attending weekly sessions for 3 months with Dr. Steve I went in for the 3rd attempt and didn’t pass again, HOWEVER I was close. After another 2 months and meeting on a weekly basis, I went in for the 4th attempt and I walked out of the testing center with the one piece of paper. Dr. Steve is called the EPPP prep doctor for a reason, more like the EPPP whisperer. I stumbled upon Dr. Steve’s group classes through word of mouth, and he was on top of following up with a conversation to see whether working with him would be ideal for my situation. I was on a very tight deadline with my employer to pass the exam to keep my job and English is my 3rd language, so I felt extreme pressure while studying. If it was not for Dr. Steve’s individual and group EPPP coaching I would have not successfully passed the exam in the short amount of time.

Dr. Steve is very open, direct, and will not sugarcoat things, which is absolutely needed for this exam. As much as he is supportive and encouraging he also holds his students accountable for their own work. His approach is realistic and it helped me not only learn and retain the material to apply on the exam, but I actually enjoyed learning the new concepts. Not only did it help me pass the EPPP, but I took the new learning and also apply it in my clinical practice.

After studying for the EPPP for 4 years and taking it 5 times, I was on the brink of accepting that it might take me another 4 years and 5 attempts to finally pass this exam. Hi everyone! Ok, I'm just going to say it - it's FINALLY my turn to say - I PASSED!!! After years and multiple tries, I finally did it! and I'm still in disbelief because it hasn't fully sunk in yet. But I'm so happy.
It's been a very long journey for me struggling to pass. While studying all these years, I've struggled with health issues, while balancing studying and work with a newborn (who's now 4 years-old). It's definitely been a challenge.

With this test, I studied so hard. I gave all my blood, sweat, and tears, but failed multiple times. I've studied with a few study groups and joined Prepjet premium. I also got additional tutoring from Stephen Haran. Stephen helped me focus on a lot of challenging concepts and terms, while providing concrete examples and strategies that further deepened my understanding of the material. I can’t begin to express how much Dr. Haran helped me in preparing for and passing the EPPP on the first try. Prior to meeting Dr. Steve, I was 16 months in studying for the E-PPP and 4 failed attempts. My lowest score was 460 and my highest score was 477. I decided to call Dr. Haran on my way back from my 4th E-PPP failed attempt. I was very upset that I failed for the 4th time and I was so devastated. I began tutoring with Dr. Steve Haran in October 2019. I passed the EPPP in February 2021 with a 236-point difference from the first time that I took the exam independent of tutoring with Dr. Steve. I remember the first call I had with him, in which he took the time to understand me as a student and a person, but most importantly, I remember him ending the call stating, “You will pass the EPPP.” My perseverance and hard work combined with Dr. Steve’s knowledge and the pride that he takes in his work was a recipe for success.

Dr. Steve knows how to confront when needed, he is aware of the importance of mental wellbeing during the study course, and most importantly, he is truly knowledgeable about the content in the EPPP. He spends time looking up additional information that is applicable to the exam and attends educational seminars and conferences to enhance his knowledge. I most enjoyed his original ways of remembering the terms and receiving supplementary information on research beyond the study materials to encourage me to think about the concepts on the EPPP. I appreciate Dr. Steve’s ability to help me understand that I needed to look past just memorization of the facts, but in addition to have a deeper understanding of how to integrate the concepts.

My name is Mariángela Nava Urdaneta, Psy.D. I am a native Spanish-speaker, bilingual and former International Student from Maracaibo, Venezuela. After meeting all the requirements for licensure as a psychologist in Florida, I started preparing for the Examination for Professional Practice in Psychology (EPPP) in January 2020 while working full-time at a community mental health center. I felt overwhelmed, tired and completely lost in the amount of information I needed to memorize. At first, my studying methods were similar to how I have studied since undergrad: by reading the information, writing and re-writing notes multiple times. This method became old and boring quickly as I was not advancing through the test domains at the pace I desired, and my practice tests scores indicated that I had a long way to go. In March 2020, the outbreak of COVID-19 caused my agency to fully transition to telehealth services. The lines between work and home were blurred, and my motivation to study was gone.

I found out about Dr. Stephen Haran through an EPPP Facebook Group. A member posted a comment briefly describing their experience with Dr. Haran, as well as the tutoring services he offered. Yes, you should hire Steve, do not over think this—he is worth every cent! After failing the EPPP multiple times and spending thousands of dollars on retakes and study materials, Steve was recommended to me by a study partner who had recently passed the EPPP after studying with Steve. So, after hearing her success, I reached out to Steve and hired him immediately. I appreciated Steve’s approach towards studying for the EPPP. He is both humorous and is straightforward-- so if you don’t want someone to tell you when you’re doing something wrong when studying, he is not the guy for you! Because Steve wants you to pass, so he will stop you and tell you “No, stop, you’re confusing yourself, this is how to do XYZ when reading this kind of question!” Because ultimately, he wants you to pass and he does not waste your study session time. Steve is the coach you want on your team, he had the flexibility to cheer me on when I needed it, but also recognize when I got overwhelmed after reading a question and would remind me that this exam could be conquered! I would recommend Steve to anyone who is struggling with this exam, needs someone to help them study the domains correctly, and/or is tired of retaking this exam and feeling defeated! Don’t do this alone, hire him, stay diligent in the study plan he provides and you will pass!

I reached out to Dr. Haran during a time in my studying in which I was unmotivated and frustrated with several EPPP attempts though my scores were trending upwards everytime (luckily). My last score was a 495, failing only by a question or two. At this point, I had one more shot before a long wait period to write again and it was so important for me to use every resource I could find. Before I met Steve, I had been studying and failing the EPPP on my own for close to ten years. I followed the advice of everyone around me and could not understand why I was failing. I failed several times and blamed it mostly on anxiety and English as my second language. I met Steve in 2018 and have been studying with him ever since. With his help, we were finally able to figure out that it was not my anxiety or English, it was that I did not know the material as well as I thought I did. I had been studying the wrong way for close to ten years. With Steve’s help, I was able to really fine tune my studying and really get to the bottom of my knowledge base. He has been a tremendous help and without him, I would have continued to study the way I was all those years. He is so creative in so many ways (which I am not) and helps me come up with different ways of remembering things. He is a great tutor and I couldn’t have asked for a better one.

Dr. Haran provided a thorough review of the material expected to be on the exam. His methods of tutoring are unique as he offers convenient and practical ways to study the large amount of information. He was flexible with session times as I worked 40 hours a week, often meeting in the evenings or on the weekends.
